Can Peacocks Eat Watermelon?

Peacocks are able to eat watermelon. They are very adventurous eaters who are not picky and will eat almost anything given to them, including watermelon. The seeds contained within a watermelon provide excellent nutrients and vitamin sources that are essential to a peacock’s health.

Although peacocks can eat watermelon, it is important to feed it to them in moderation. This ensures they obtain the health benefits without having too much.

When feeding these treats to your peacock, it is important to do so in moderation. This ensures your colorful friend is not overeating.

It is also important to wash all fruits and vegetables before serving and preparing them to decrease the chances of illness from bacteria or insects. 

When done preparing your treats, you can store them in the fridge to ensure fresh flavor and texture. 

Watermelon Delight

This treat is based on watermelon and fresh fruit, and it is designed to be made fresh and does not require baking. Below are the ingredients! 

  • ¼ of a watermelon– cut into small, bite-sized cubes 
  • ½ of a banana– cut into small, bite-sized slices 
  • ½ of an apple of choice (peacocks often prefer sweeter apples)- cut into bite-sized chunks

All fruits should be cut into small pieces, small enough for the peacock to eat and chew thoroughly. When all fruits are cut up, mix them into a large salad bowl. When combined, it is ready to serve! The serving size for your peacock is ¼ cup.

Veggies Galore

This recipe uses vegetables to create a fresh and delicious treat. This treat is designed to not need any baking and should be prepared fresh. Below are the ingredients and directions: 

  •  ¼ cup of cooked/raw peas– depending on preference
  •  ½ carrot cut into small chunks– cooked or raw, depending on preference. 
  •  ¾ cup raw/cooked corn– depending on preference 
  •  ¼ of a watermelon– cut into small bite-sized cubes 
  •  ¾ cup barley– preferred cooked

When ingredients are all prepared, add them to a bowl and mix. Once complete, this treat can be given to your peacock. About ¼ cup is recommended to prevent overeating and prevent any digestive issues.

Fruity Favorites

This last treat contains a variety of fruits that is sure to excite your peacock. This treatment requires no baking and should be served fresh. Below are the ingredients and directions. Enjoy! 

  • Around 4-5 grapes
  • ½ a peach cut into small chunks
  • ½ a pear– cut into small chunks
  • ¼ of a watermelon– cut into small, bite-sized cubes 

When all the ingredients are prepared, combine them in a large bowl and mix them all together. This treat is similar to that of a fruit salad and should be given in ¼-cup servings to your peacock.
